Butterflies are found all over the world and can live in many environments hot and cold, dry and moist. Most however, can
be found in tropical areas, like the rain forest. Many butterflies migrate to avoid harsh weather conditions. Some only travel
a short distance and others, like the monarch travel thousands of miles. There are 28,000 butterfly species. Wow, that's a
lot !!!
Like all insects, the butterfly has six legs and 3 body parts, antennae, eyes, and an exoskeleton. The three body parts
are the head, thorax (the chest), and abdomen. It's body is covered with tiny sensory hairs and the thorax contains the muscles
that make the legs and wings move. The butterfly has veins that supply blood and nourishment which support delicate wings.
A butterflies body tempature must maintain a temperature of 86 degrees in order to fly, this is why they bask in the sun!
The slowest butterfly flies about 5 miles per hour and the fastest flies about 30 miles.
